24/7 Emergency Lockout Service in Manchester
Locked out in Manchester? Here's what to do
Standing on your own doorstep at 11pm with no way in is one of the worst feelings, and it always seems to happen when nothing's open. We're a 24/7 emergency locksmith in Manchester who picks up the phone, gives you a straight price before we set off, and — in most cases — opens the door without damaging it.
That last part matters. A locksmith who reaches for the drill on every job is either undertrained or trying to upsell you a new lock. We carry the picks, bypass tools and bump keys for the cylinders you actually have, and we open them non-destructively in the vast majority of lockouts. That keeps the bill down and your door in one piece.
When to call us
The classic emergencies we run on a daily basis:
- Keys lost or stolen, especially at night or away from home.
- Keys snapped in the lock, with bits stuck inside.
- Door slammed shut behind you with the keys still inside.
- Lock seized in cold weather — common across older terraces in Chorlton and Didsbury.
- Children locked inside alone, or pets locked in a room.
- uPVC door that won't unlock even with the right key — usually a multipoint mechanism issue, see our uPVC door repair page.
If you've had a break-in and need the door secured before you go anywhere, that's a slightly different job — see burglary repairs.
How fast and how much
For most of Greater Manchester our typical ETA on an emergency lockout is 20–40 minutes from your call. The exact number depends on where you are and the time of day; out-of-hours and traffic at school run / commute times shift it. We give you an honest estimate on the phone, not an optimistic one.
Realistic price ranges in Manchester right now:
- Non-destructive entry on a standard Yale-style cylinder: typically £75–£150 in normal hours, £100–£200 out of hours.
- uPVC door lockout (door won't open even with key): often part of a multipoint mechanism job; whole repair typically £140–£280.
- Drilled cylinder + replacement with a new British Standard cylinder: typically £150–£300 depending on the cylinder.
Where you fall in those ranges depends on the lock type, the door, the time of day and whether the cylinder is anti-snap (which can complicate non-destructive entry). You get a fixed price on the phone, in writing if you want it via text, before we set off.
What "non-destructive" actually means
Non-destructive entry means opening the lock so it still works afterwards. We pick the pins, manipulate the cylinder, or bypass via tools that act on internal mechanisms — the lock survives the job, you keep using the same key. About 8 out of 10 lockouts on standard cylinders are non-destructive when the locksmith is properly equipped.
Drilling is sometimes the right answer — broken locks, certain very high-security cylinders, or locks already damaged from a previous DIY attempt. We use it as a deliberate decision, not a first move, and we explain the trade-off before we touch the drill.
Across Greater Manchester
We cover the full metro: City Centre, Didsbury, Chorlton, Salford, Old Trafford, Withington and surrounding postcodes from M1 through to the suburbs. The vans are stocked for the doors and locks you actually have in Manchester — terraces with Yale-style nightlatches, semi-detached with uPVC composite doors, mid-century with multipoint, modern flats with electronic strikes. We can quote you accurately because we've seen the door before.
If you've lost your keys and aren't sure whether to call out tonight or wait till morning, our guide on what to do when you're locked out at night walks you through the call. Spoiler: if there's a child, pet or vulnerable person inside, or you can't safely wait, call.
When to call us
Call any time you can't get in and waiting isn't safe or sensible. We pick up 24/7, we give you a fixed price before we set off, and we open most locks non-destructively. If you're not sure whether your situation is a lockout we can help with, ring us and ask — we'll tell you honestly on the phone, including whether you're better waiting until morning to save the out-of-hours surcharge.
